My Review of the San Antonio Ghost Tour Downtown

My girl friend and I and a couple of friends decided to head downtown San Antonio Texas to take the walking haunted ghost tour. It had been a year that we had wanted to do the tour and never really got around to it.

We got there around 8:30 on Alamo Plaza next to the Gazzebo where a young lady wearing a ghost tour shirt approached us as if she new to expect us. We told her we were looking for the walking ghost tour and then directed us to the tour guide who shook our hand and gave us a little summary of what the tour would consist of and so on. The walking tour for each person was 15 dollars per person which wasnt bad considering it was an hour an a half long.

My friend's girl friend was a little apprehensive of the whole idea of hunting ghost. I assured her that this tour would not be as scary as she may think since the locations we were covering were outside.

The tour guide then alerted everyone who would be taking part in the tour to follow him where we cross the alamo onto the next side of the street where we would all sit. He gave a short summary about the equipment we would be using during the walk and how to use the equipment in our ghost investigation. They had what was called an EMF meter that detects electormagnetic fields and a laser heat thermometer that reads temperature.

We walked to around 5 to 6 locations around the Alamo city and each location followed with a short history and what people in the past has capture on tape or pictures.

I took a few snaps so tonight I will look and see if anything appeared in our ghost tour. Although we didn't see any ghosts that night but it was an educational experience and well worth the tour.

The tour started around 9pm and ended around 10:30pm. So if you plan to do the tour go downtown by the alamo next to the Gazebo. The tour starts at 9pm.

Just a word of warning you can get ticketed for putting your car on neutral on the tracks.

To add to this story a few friends dared to go to the tracks and they didn't park their car like everyone normally does. What was strange was a woman walking on the side of the road with old clothes at 2am walking towards the tracks. Kind of creepy if you tell me.

Chinese Graveyard haunting in San Antonio Texas

When I was a kid my family and I would gather around to tell different haunted stories from around San Antonio Texas. One story that comes to mind in particular is the Chinese Graveyard.

I have never been to this location but many people I know who have been to the Chinese graveyard swear they have seen and heard ghosts.

The story goes that if you flicker your flash light 5 or 10 times, this tall Chinese woman will appear and follow you. My friends who have gone and have done this have stated they have never seen the Chinese woman. They did tell me that when they did the flash light activity there were shadows and voices that could be heard.

Some say the graveyard has many unmarked burials of people who were laid to rest with no grave markers. There are a few markers but many have not been named.

Some say they were bodies of Chinese immigrants who were buried in this location.

The location is on 410 and Zarzamora but be warn this location is on private property.

Onion House - Leon Valley historic Society

A few days ago I passed by an a sign listing for more information on how to help restore the building is listed as below.

The building has been restored with a new deck. I've looked at their website but not much has been updated as to when it would be open to the public. I hope to find a contact to see if they would like to do an interview.

This is the back of the Onion House. (Just FYI no one is allowed inside the property since it is private property. I was able to take a picture of the back since their is a hotel next door to the site.)

Terror Mansion in San Antonio Texas

El Camaroncito Urban Legend– now know as El Rancherito

Growing up I heard of this story of a bar on the West side in San Antonio called El Camaroncito. If you lived in the West side of town you know the story but if you haven't let me give you a summary.

It is a San Antonio Urban legend which took place in the late 70’s from what from what I have heard.

The story goes that one night a distinguished gentleman would dance with all the beautiful ladies at the club. His hair was nicely combed with neatly pressed pants and caught many women's attention.

What started this whole legend was one lady approached this handsome man and asked him to dance. As they dance she noticed that others around her were staring in horror.

The man’s leg was part goat and many of the night clubber ran out in fear of this demon that dances with the beautiful women at El Camaroncito. Realizing she was dancing with the devil she then noticed a fowl smell coming from him and she ran out the door never to return to the club.

I heard from a friend of mine that this was not the first occurrence or you can say an isolated incident. Has the dancing devil made a second appearance? 

Only those who go to El Rancherito would know. Still though El Camaroncito's urban legend continues. For a long while this club had been vacant but now once open again. For more information click here for the next post on El Camaroncito

The Onion house haunting San Antonio Texas

The Onion House got its name from Judge John Onion who purchased the house in the 1930s . The building itself was made with limestone and was built and owned at the time by Joseph Huebner who had horses and a stagecoach stop for people to stop by.

The location is on Bandera and Grissom by a hotel. You can't miss it since its right off the Bandera highway. I know at one time the historical society were making repairs to reopen the house as a historic museum but vandals broke in and spray painted the inside of the house. The historic society tried to raise funds but it seems the project had been abandoned. Its my hope there were be enough funds to fix what needs fixing to maybe open it to the public.

Update: December 23,2009

I edited the story I heard from a friend of mine so I took the story off completely. What is know is people who had once occupied the building claim there are ghosts that occupy it. Strange sounds of glass shattering when there is none there. To read more on the Onion house two individuals have provided some insight to the real story of the Old Onion house on Helotes. Thank for those who shared their story.

Just FYI the Onion house is gated so its not like you can just walk in and explore. At one time these historic sites were accessible to explore but as you know vandals have to leave their mark and ruin it for the rest of us who want to check out places like this.

The good news is that there is a historic marker in front of the building so I plan to this week to take a photo of it and post it on my haunted blog for you to check out. So keep looking ok?

Here is another video on the train tracks haunting. Just a warning if you decide to head out to the train tracks, you are not allowed to park in the middle of the train tracks. To many people do this so you may be ticketed. What you can do is drive by the location. The haunted tracks are on the South Side of San Antonio Texas. I will provide the address sometime next week.
